Wenger: I Love Cesc

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Cesc Fabregas’ exclusion from the squad in their pre-season friendly with Benfica has nothing to do with transfer speculation.

Barcelona have reportedly been trying to wrap up a deal for the Spain midfielder in recent weeks and reports suggested that he had not been selected for the match in Lisbon because of this.

Wenger has dismissed this though, saying it was purely due to the fact that the player is returning from injury.

“He is just coming back from injury and is not ready to play in a game, but he is not injured,” said Wenger, according to the club’s official website.

“I do not want to speak about the transfer of Fabregas because I have done that three years now in every press conference so I don’t think there is any more need to add something.

“I love Fabregas and I want him to stay, that is basically it.

“Everybody is free to think what they want. We cannot stop people raising questions.”
